ScoutMaster Corner

JAN_2024

Greetings Troop 870 and 5870, as we move into the new year, I want to challenge each of you to make personal Scout goals. These goals can be to rank up, to earn a certain merit badge, to master a new Scout skill, run for a leadership position, complete the hike of the month challenge, or go backpacking. Scouting is about your personal journey, and every journey should be something you’ve thought about and you take ownership of.   As your Scoutmaster, my hope is that you better yourself, that you live by the Scout Oath and Law, that you find a piece of Scouting, and challenge yourself to make improvements to it.  As a youth-led troop, I look forward to seeing what you have planned for this year. We are in for a great year and some amazing things are coming, new events, new fun, new challenges, and more great Scouting.

Tree crunch is complete, and we have credited your hard work by applying your “earnings” to your scout accounts. I want to thank everyone for their hard work, we collected over 900 trees in 4 days. A special thank you to Andrea Procida for your hard work behind the scenes coordinating pickups, Brady Eilers for working dispatch, Ralph Procida and Matthrew Rempel for working the transport trailer, our awesome drivers- Ed Henson, Jerry Elder, Aron Rempel, Bryce Kennedy, Constantin Vasiliu, Rodger Beckham, Dan Rouse, Matt Coleman, Doug Utberg, Jared Burdick, Jarrod Price, Tamara Wagner and Tom Baxter. We could not have done it without you.

I also wanted to remind everyone of our hike of the month campaign. So far, we have hiked to Pittock Mansion, Chehalam Ridge, and most recently Silver Falls. If you missed a hike, you could always go with your family or patrol and make it up. We’ll just need a picture of you showing you were there. Those who complete all 12 hikes will receive a cool patch and special meal from your Scoutmaster.
